In short
BlosSom scans documents on your phone and keeps them there. It has no account, no advertising, no analytics and no crash reporting, and its own code never connects to the internet; the one exception, what the scanner sends Google about itself, is below. We, the people who make BlosSom, never receive your documents or anything about you.
What the app handles
The pages you scan. They are image files in the app’s private storage on your phone. Deleting a page deletes its file; starting over deletes all of them; and every time the app opens, it deletes any pages left from the time before.
Your settings (theme, language, default format, paper size, image quality), in a small file in the app’s private storage.
Nothing else. BlosSom does not read your contacts, your location, your other photos or your files.
When pages leave your phone
Only when you share, save or print them. Share hands the PDF or photos to the app you pick, Save writes them to a folder you pick or to your photo library, and Print hands the PDF to your printing service. What happens to them after that is up to that app, folder or printer.
The scanner
On Android, BlosSom uses Google’s ML Kit document scanner, which is part of Google Play services. It processes the images on your phone, and Google states that ML Kit does not send the images or its results to Google’s servers.
ML Kit does send Google data about itself, for diagnostics and usage analytics: device information (such as manufacturer, model and Android version), the app’s package name and version, per-installation identifiers, performance metrics and the scanner’s settings. Google encrypts this data in transit, does not share it with third parties, and handles it under its own privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy). BlosSom cannot switch this off.
On iPhone, BlosSom uses Apple’s VisionKit scanner, which runs on the device.
Permissions
Camera, on iPhone, for the scanner. On Android the scanner uses its own camera access through Google Play services, and BlosSom does not ask for it.
Adding to your photo library, only when you save pages as photos. BlosSom asks only to add photos and never reads the ones you have. On Android 12 and older, the system’s storage permission covers reading as well as writing, so the request may mention your photos and files; BlosSom still only writes.
The app’s Android package also lists network access and a few other permissions that come with the framework it is built on. BlosSom has no code that uses them.
This website
This site sets no cookies and has no analytics or third-party scripts, and its fonts are served from here. Like any website, the server and Cloudflare, which carries its traffic, receive the technical details of each request, such as your IP address and browser; they are kept only in routine server logs.
Children
BlosSom is not directed at children. We, the people who make it, receive nothing from anyone, children included; what the scanner sends Google is described above.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with a new date.
